Earthquakes

10/22/2009 17:58

An earthquake is a movement of the Earth's lithosphere that occurs when rock suddenly shift releasing stored energy. In simpler terms, (that only I would understand ha.) it mean that the Earth's rock plates inside of the Earth shift suddenly causing unwanted energy to let go. The Galapagos Islands are an example of how earthquakes form different islands and peninsulas. By the movement of the Earth and plate tectonics, the land shifts and splits apart year after year. The Earth moves so many inches from the plates moving and sliding.

Another example is The Pacific Ring of Fire is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. As a result, eruptions and earthquakes happen frequently because of the positioning of the Ring of Fire.
